The guide
A clear starting point for using AI in lifecycle marketing without losing relevance, margin discipline or control.
Use automation to remove repetition, then keep a human accountable for the customer, the claim and the commercial decision.
Begin with behaviour
Choose one customer journey and define its trigger before opening a design tool. A welcome series, cart recovery, post-purchase sequence or win-back flow works only when each message answers what the customer needs next.
Segment before you automate
Separate new and existing customers, high-intent and casual visitors, and different engagement frequencies. AI can suggest segments, but a marketer should review whether they make commercial and customer sense.
Let AI optimise the variable layer
AI is well suited to send-time prediction, subject-line variation and pattern detection. Humans should own the offer, core message, tone and the decision about when not to send.
Design the logic first
Map delays, exits and conditions before styling the emails. In a cart flow, for example, an incentive should appear only when it is needed rather than becoming the default path for every customer.
Avoid first-timer mistakes
Do not launch too many flows at once, optimise for opens alone or ignore overlap between sequences. Start with one reliable flow, measure revenue and customer behaviour, then expand.
